The heritage of the Carson City Fire Department dates to1863. From 1863 to 1964, the fire department was all volunteer in nature. In 1964, the department converted to a mix of volunteers and paid firefighters as described below. The Carson City Fire Department traces its roots back to the time of America's Civil War with the formation of Warren Engine Company No. 1.
